Addition of Yannick Ngakoue named one of the best offseason moves

One of the biggest free-agent moves of the offseason was the Raiders acquiring former Pro Bowl EDGE rusher Yannick Ngakoue. Of all the defensive ends on the free-agent market, no one had the production and youth that Ngakoue had over the last five seasons.

For a team that needed to improve their pass rush, the addition of Ngakoue was one of the best moves by any team this season. He now gives the Raiders three defensive ends that each do different things at a high level. For the first time in several years, they have actual depth at the position.

In a recent article by Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report, he graded all the biggest moves of the offseason. The Raiders received high marks for the signing of Ngakoue as it was named one of the best free-agent signings. Here are some of Moton’s thoughts on the signing:

“Ngakoue hasn’t played more than 75 percent of the defensive snaps in a season. He may sub out for Clelin Ferrell, who could line up inside and outside, on early downs. Nonetheless, the 26-year-old will undoubtedly take the field in passing situations. Perhaps his bulked-up frame allows him to see an expanded role.

Though the Raiders signed Ngakoue to a fully guaranteed deal, his secured $26 million ranks 30th among edge-rushers. That’s solid value for a rotational player with room for growth.”

The Ngakoue signing gives the Raiders a legit threat off the edge. And if Maxx Crosby and Clelin Ferrell can make a leap in Year 3, this defensive line could be a whole lot more productive than we’ve seen over the last few years.

Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden should receive a ton of praise for securing this talented pass rusher in free agency.
