Addition of Allen Robinson shifts draft focus at wide receiver

In something of a rare move, the Pittsburgh Steelers worked a trade to bring in former Pro Bowl wide receiver Allen Robinson and all it cost the Steelers was a swap of seventh-round picks.

The addition of Robinson gives Pittsburgh a legitimate weapon in the passing game, a guy who can line up outside and let either Diontae Johnson or George Pickens slide inside in the slot and the missing piece of the puzzle among the skill position players.

Trading for Robinson also takes wide receiver off the table for the Steelers in the 2023 NFL draft. Sort of. Adding Allen means Pittsburgh has no temptation to use one of its first three picks on a receiver. This will allow the Steelers to hit the remaining positions of need. Namely offensive tackle, edge rusher and cornerback.

This is in addition to Calvin Austin III who is supposed to be back to full health and ready to contribute. If Austin can be an impact player in the punt and kick return game, the Steelers will be set at receiver.
