Addison Russell, Jason Heyward power Cubs to 6-3 win over Cardinals

ST. LOUIS _ The Cubs overcame two deficits Saturday night to take a 6-3 win over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

Ian Happ's two-out double down the right-field line scored Anthony Rizzo with the go-ahead run in the seventh, and Jason Heyward cranked a two-run home run in the eighth off hard-throwing Jordan Hicks.

Kyle Hendricks allowed a two-run home run in the first to Marcell Ozuna but managed to allow three runs in six innings, marking the 12th time in 14 starts he has allowed three earned runs or fewer.

The Cubs temporarily got Hendricks off the hook when Willson Contreras hit a bad-hop single to score Ben Zobrist in the third, and Addison Russell ripped a home run off Carlos Martinez to lead off the fourth.

But Martinez poked a low line drive just out of the reach of a diving Heyward in right field to score Dexter Fowler and give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead in the fourth.

The Cubs countered in the top of the fifth with a game-tying single by Kyle Schwarber.
