Addison man charged with child pornography possession

Sept. 18--An Addison man listed on the Illinois sex offender registry has been charged by DuPage County authorities with possession of child pornography.

David Prefountain, 49, was being held in the county jail in lieu of $750,000 bail after his arrest Wednesday by Addison police, according to prosecutors, who said Prefountain appeared Friday morning in bond court.

Police received information this week alleging child pornography activity and obtained a search warrant after identifying Prefountain as a suspect, prosecutors said. Authorities say they recovered a Kindle device at his residence with numerous images of child pornography on it.

"Child pornography continues to be a thorn in the side of society," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said. "Purveyors of this disgusting filth will use every type of Internet technology available to them to share and collect these disgusting images."

According to the Illinois sex offender registry site, Prefountain was convicted of criminal sexual assault for a mid-1990s incident involving a child. The assault took place in McHenry County and involved a 10-year-old boy, according to state records.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 5 for arraignment in front of Judge Brian Telander. Prefountain was ordered to have no contact with children and no Internet access, should he post the $75,000 cash bond, prosecutors said.
