Addeybb, Verry Ellegant in Ranvet rematch

Tom Marquand will reunite with top-class English galloper Addeybb in the Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill. (AAP)

English jockey Tom Marquand knows enough about Australian racing to understand the importance of the Golden Slipper.

But he is adamant an undercard contest under weight-for-age conditions deserves equal billing with the world's richest race for two-year-olds at Rosehill on Saturday.

Marquand will renew acquaintances with Addeybb, the horse who gave him his first elite-level win when the English-trained middle-distance star won in Sydney in 2020.

Addeybb is set for a return clash with Verry Ellegant in the Ranvet Stakes after beating the Chris Waller-trained mare in last year's edition.

The visitor also relegated the subsequent Caulfield Cup heroine into second place in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes later in the autumn, setting up a classic rematch on Slipper day.

"These are the races that should be celebrated as well. We've got two heavyweights coming together," Marquand said.

"Whatever side you come out of it, you can't help but respect they're both top-class athletes."

Addeybb holds a slight call over Verry Ellegant for Ranvet favouritism with both horses adept on rain-affected ground.

Marquand will ride Captivant, a $41 chance, for Peter and Paul Snowden in the Golden Slipper.
