NEW DELHI: Adani Group, GMR, L&T and IntelliSmart — a joint venture of National Investment and Infrastructure Fund and power ministry’s energy saving company EESL — are in race for the largest smart meter tender worth Rs 23,000 crore floated by UP.

The tender is for installing about 2.8 crore smart meters as well as setting up meter data management, cloud computing, billing and communication systems for the state’s four distribution companies.

The tender was floated in August 5 and closed on Monday. The meters are to be installed in 27 months. The project is being undertaken under the Centre’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme.

UP leads the rollout of smart meters at more than 11.5 lakh. Bihar is a close second with 11 lakh smart meters installed, Rajasthan 5.5 lakh, Haryana 5.3 lakh, Assam 4.1 lakh and Delhi 2.5 lakh.
