Adamson: 'I'll work compassionately and tenaciously for the people of Motherwell and Wishaw'

Clare Adamson has thanked her staff and voters after a huge election win last night.

The SNP candidate retained her seat in Motherwell and Wishaw, increasing her majority to 7813.

The MSP was elected for the second time, having first been elected in 2016.

Ms Adamson said: "I am absolutely delighted with this result and absolutely delighted with the good turn out as well.

"It has been a different campaign and we have had to innovate and do things a little bit differently - but generally it has been very positive most of the time.

"I am so thankful that the people of Motherwell and Wishaw have endorsed me again and that is also down to the hard work of my staff as well.

"We will work compassionately and tenaciously as we do for the people of Motherwell and Wishaw.

"We have a fantastic manifesto brimming full of policies on social justice and human rights and I can't wait to deliver that."

Scottish Labours Martine Nolan came in second place with 10,343 votes.

The local activist was selected as the Labour candidate in late 2020.

Martine said: "I could not be happier with the campaign and the work that my team has put in.

"To have over 10,000 people put their trust in me is very humbling and I am very thankful for that.

"I hope that I am able to repay my thanks in some other way."

Local councillor and conservative candidate Nathan Wilson came in third, with 4472 votes.

He said: “The Conservatives have focused more on our regional ballot paper, so I think we will see better results tomorrow.

“This means we will continue to be a leading opposition against the SNP.”

Martin Veart of the Lib Dems won 557 votes, Mark Meechan of the Scottish Libertarians won 254 votes, Daniel Lambe of the Communist Party of Great Britain won 194 votes and UKIP’s Neil Wilson came last with just 173 votes.

There was a turnout of 58.8% across the constituency.
