Adam Zimmer says becoming a head coach ‘has always been the goal’

Adam Zimmer was named Vikings co-defensive coordinator this offseason after serving as only the linebackers coach for the Vikings from 2014-19.

It appears that eventually, Zimmer has aspirations for the kind of position his father, Mike, currently has. Asked by Sid Hartman of the Star Tribune whether he has thought about becoming a head coach, he said that’s something he wants to do.

“That has always been the goal. I have always kept a little book of things I would do or things that I would want to do as a head coach,” Zimmer said. “Each step in the process is a step towards that.”

Adam told Hartman that being named co-defensive coordinator, alongside Andre Patterson, was one of the best moments in his 15-year NFL coaching tenure. Maybe one day, head coach could be added to that list of moments.

“I’m not in any hurry to be a head coach. I know how much stress it is and how much scrutiny you get, but that’s definitely in the long-term goals.”
