Adam Thomas shares sweet moment he told son Teddy he had been cast in Waterloo Road

Adam Thomas has shared the moment he broke the exciting news to his son Teddy that he had been cast in the reboot of Waterloo Road.

The actor, 34, recorded his eight-year-old son’s reaction to the casting news that he would be playing his on-screen son in the BBC drama, which aired its second episode on Tuesday evening.

Teddy initially lost the part of little Tommy to another actor, but was then offered it when the child actor turned it down.

The former Emmerdale star shared the exciting news in his family kitchen, alongside Teddy's cousin and co-star Scarlett Thomas, who was hired to play teenager Izzi in her first acting role.

Scarlett is the daughter of Thomas’s older brother Ryan, who previously starred in Coronation Street, and Tina O’Brien, who still appears in the ITV soap.

Taking to Instagram ahead of the second episode of the show, Adam shared the clip in which he was seen explaining Waterloo Road had recast the role, before Scarlett then squealed: "Welcome to the Waterloo Road family!"

Teddy immediately burst into tears, along with the rest of the room – including his mum Caroline Daly, who asked: “Are those happy tears?”

Alongside the clip, Adam penned a lengthy caption, writing: “The moment we told Teddy… he would be joining the cast of WATERLOO ROAD!!

“Teddy auditioned for the role of Tommy and got down to the last two actors, but they went with the other actor and I remember telling Ted, and he burst out crying bless him…

“But that’s an actor's life…some parts you get, some you don’t …a lesson he learnt early in his career.

“However a few weeks later I got a call saying they have had to recast the part of Tommy, and would love to give it to Teddy!!! … this time round they were happy tears!!”

He continued: “Can’t tell you how special it’s been sharing the screen with not only teddy but with Scarlett Thomas who is quite frankly one of the best actresses I’ve ever worked with.

“Well done guys proud dad and uncle and thank you for all the lovely messages and so happy you're all enjoying Waterloo road x.”

Thomas, who came third on reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here in 2016, also starred in Waterloo Road as a teenager between 2006 and 2009.

Waterloo Road continues next Wednesday at 8pm. The entire original series and the new episodes are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
