Adam Thielen’s agent ‘cautiously optimistic’ an extension will get done with Vikings

Adam Thielen is one of the best receivers in the league. However, he is not paid like one.

Thielen, 28, signed a four-year, $19.2 million deal before the 2017 season which seemed like a fair contract. That was before back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons for Thielen.

The Vikings certainly don’t need to give Thielen a new contract, but his agent Blake Baratz is optimistic that the team will do so.

“This team has a lot of really good things in place for it, and I know they want to take care of Adam and I know they want Adam there and I know they want to reward Adam,” Baratz said via SKOR North. “What exactly that looks like and when that happens, I can’t speak to yet, but I’m cautiously optimistic that everyone will come around and do the right thing.

Thielen is hitting the prime of his career. He’s set to make $7.35 million next season, a mark that ranks 27th among receivers in the league.

Per Spotrac, the Vikings have an estimated $5.8 million in cap space right now, but that could change depending on any cap casualties the team has.
