Adam Schefter suggests what Trent Williams trade compensation might look like

If the Washington Redskins end up trading Trent Williams, the framework for a deal doesn’t seem to be too unpredictable.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter, for example, sees the Redskins getting back a first-round pick and change for their star left tackle. The analysis comes courtesy of  JP Finlay of NBC Sports: “…suggests a 1st & 6th round pick could prob get a Trent Williams trade done. Says right now Skins aren’t trading Trent, but adds that can change.”

Schefter has previously reported teams are still calling the Redskins about Williams but that the front office isn’t entertaining the idea right now.

But a first and a late-round pick seems like the best the Redskins will be able to do. At this point, the Redskins don’t have a ton of leverage if Williams truly doesn’t care about the fines he’ll get for skipping being with the team.

Teams receiving Williams won’t give up much more than that either, especially if he indeed wants a big contract at the same time.

It should go without saying, but the Redskins can’t really afford to lose an elite left tackle, nor will a first-round pick help mitigate the loss much. That said, it’s nice to have a ballpark for compensation here.
