Adam Schefter doesn’t think the Broncos are in any rush to play Drew Lock

During an appearance on Schlereth and Evans on 104.3 The Fan earlier this week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter indicated that the Denver Broncos will probably stick with quarterback Brandon Allen for at least the next few games on their schedule.

“I don’t think they’re in any rush at all to go turn to Drew Lock this season,” Schefter said. “I know that people want to see what the second-round draft pick can do [but] I don’t get a sense that they’re clamoring to go put in Drew Lock at this point in time.

“So as long as Brandon Allen can play like that, I think he’ll keep playing.”

Allen started in the place of an injured Joe Flacco last week and helped the Broncos defeat the Cleveland Browns 24-19. Lock (thumb) is expected to return to practice after Denver’s bye week but coach Vic Fangio wouldn’t confirm that during his Monday press conference.

“It’s still up in the air,” Fangio said when asked if Lock will practice next week. “Since we’re not practicing this week, we don’t have to make a decision until next week.”

Lock is eligible to return from injured reserve at any time now but the Broncos want to take some time to get the QB ready before he takes the field. The rookie will probably start Denver’s final games of the season.
