Adam Sandler Believes Lorne Michaels Won't Leave Saturday Night Live

Adam Sandler - Leo

Adam Sandler recently shared his thoughts on the future of Saturday Night Live (SNL) and its creator and executive producer, Lorne Michaels. Sandler, a former SNL cast member, expressed his belief that Michaels, who is 79 years old, is not likely to step down from his role anytime soon. In an interview at the premiere of his new Netflix film Spaceman, Sandler mentioned that he had spoken to Michaels and felt that Michaels is still passionate about his work on the long-running NBC sketch comedy series.

During a previous interview at the Emmy Awards, Michaels hinted at the possibility of Tina Fey being his potential successor, acknowledging her talent and contributions to the entertainment industry. Michaels also mentioned that there are other individuals currently working on SNL who could be considered for the role in the future.

Despite speculation about Michaels' eventual departure, he confirmed his intention to stay with SNL until its 50th anniversary in February 2025. Sandler praised Michaels for his dedication to the show, noting that Michaels continues to derive joy from the creative process of putting together each episode.

Sandler, who was a cast member on SNL from 1990 to 1995 before being fired, reflected on his past experiences with the show. He admitted to feeling hurt at the time of his dismissal but has since come to appreciate the opportunities that SNL provided him in his career.

Following his departure from the show, Sandler returned to host SNL in 2019 and made another appearance in 2020 for a skit with Pete Davidson. The duo performed a quarantine-themed song titled “Stuck in the House,” reflecting the challenges of social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
