Adam Peaty says he was exhausted by Strictly and calls exit 'bittersweet'

Adam Peaty says he felt both "mental and physical fatigue" on Strictly Come Dancing.

The Olympic swimmer appeared on the BBC One show alongside professional dance partner Katya Jones, crashing out of the competition a couple of weeks ago after losing in the dance-off to Tilly Ramsay.

And opening up about his time on the show, Adam explained how tiring training was, as he admitted his exit was "bittersweet".

Speaking on ITV's Good Morning Britain, he said: "Physically and mentally, it's so fatiguing. You've got a learn a dance in three days, and then perform on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday as such. You've got to have it in the bag by Thursdays.

"Honestly, it's bittersweet because I came out and I wanted to do the Paso, for example, but I get to do other things like spend more time at home with my family and I hope to do more stuff hopefully inspiring people with my book."

He continued: "There's so much going on. I'm not a negative person."

Adam had previously addressed his experience on Strictly, saying he was "grateful" for his time on the show.

"What an experience @bbcstrictly has been," he began his lengthy post.

"I’m so grateful for my time on this show, from the highs of performing in front of millions and the extreme challenge of learning a new routine within 3 days every week, it’s been incredible.

"I didn’t know how much it meant to me until I got a bit emotional after my dance off; however, I don’t think it was the dancing that pushed me over the edge, but the two years of the constant challenge with myself combined with the energy to win the Olympics and becoming a father at the same time."

He added: "My emotions are one of my strongest attributes and I’m not ashamed to show that I’m human. It’s crazy to me because I thought I was “ok” but I am not.

"We all have to wear a piece of armour to get the job done and it wasn’t until this week that I knew I could let it go. I’m still healing from the trials and tribulations that elite sporting athletes go through but with that I’m also adapting and learning from life."

He also praised Katya for being such a great dance partner.

"Thank you Katya for being there every single day, you are incredible. I don’t have enough positive words for you and what an amazing person and dancer you are," he added.
