Adam Lallana closing on Brendan Rodgers reunion as he heads for Liverpool exit

Brendan Rodgers is closing in on a reunion with free agent Adam Lallana at Leicester.

Rodgers signed Lallana for Liverpool in July 2014 from Southampton for £25 million.

Now he is up for grabs with Premier League rivals West Ham, Arsenal and Crystal Palace all keen on the 32-year-old too.

But Rodgers hopes he has the edge after working with the England midfielder previously.

Liverpool have the option of giving Lallana another year but are unlikely to take it up.

He has made 22 appearances this term in all competitions but the majority have been off the bench.

Yet he possesses a lot of experience and technical ability which Rodgers feels will benefit his young squad, who look set to be in the Champions League next season.

Lallana is also versatile enough to play in different roles aiding Rodgers' tactical flexibility.

With stiff competition for the free agent, Rodgers hopes to get the green light to agree a lucrative deal of at least two years.

Lallana has struggled massively with injuries which has hampered his progress at Anfield.

The Reds' established front three has made it even more difficult to break into the first team and Klopp said earlier this year that the most important thing for the Englishman was to get back to full fitness.

He said: "After a long time with some injuries, he is in outstanding shape physically. That's the most important thing for his career. As for the rest, we will see."
