Adam Idah hoping to become Norwich regular despite potential loan move this month

Adam Idah hopes to become a Norwich City regular sooner rather than later despite the possibility of a loan move this month.

The Cork lad, 18, became the fourth Irish teenager after Aaron Connolly, Troy Parrott and Michael Obafemi to play in the Premier League this season.

Striker Idah - a key man in Stephen Kenny’s Ireland Under-21 squad - made his top-flight bow off the bench in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

He made a favourable impression despite only coming on in injury-time and admitted yesterday that it was a dream come true.

Idah said: “I’m delighted because I’ve been dreaming of this moment since I was a young boy - I’m very honoured and happy to make my debut.

“I found out on Tuesday after training that I’d be involved and I was delighted, so I went home and rang my family straight away. They watched the game so I’m buzzing.”

A prolific scorer for both Ireland and the Canaries at underage level, Idah continued: “I was delighted to get on the pitch.

“To make a small impact when I came on was great for me. Now, it’s time to keep my head down and try to get a few more minutes.

“I want to work hard and if I get the chance, I’ll take it. If not, I’ll keep working hard.”

Idah could still leave Norwich on loan this transfer window in a bid to gain valuable first-team experience.

Doncaster Rovers are known admirers while there are a number of other League One and League Two clubs interested in the Leesider.

But Norwich have some injury concerns in attack with Teemu Pukki nursing toe and hamstring issues.

And with Dennis Srbeny still struggling with his back, Norwich may keep hold of Idah for now but still with a view to gaining experience elsewhere.

For now, the stiker will hope to play some part in tomorrow’s FA Cup third round clash at home to Championship side Preston North End.

Norwich boss Daniel Farke is aware of Idah’s clear potential but admits he is far from the finished article.

But Idah is eager to stay in situ and continue to impress the German.

“It’s been great working with Daniel,” said Idah, who has made a seamless transition into Kenny’s Under-21 set=up.
“Everyone knows he trusts young players like Max Aarons, Todd Cantwell, Jamal Lewis and Ben Godfrey, so for me to work under him is unbelievable.

“I knew he trusted me to bring me on, so I’m grateful to have him as my manager.

“Watching the other young lads go from academy football into the first team gives you that belief and hope that you can do the same thing and follow their paths.”
