Adam Humphries says Tom Brady’s age factored into him not joining Patriots

One of the most coveted prospects for the New England Patriots this offseason was wide receiver Adam Humphries, who is a young, talented slot receiver that could have been implemented in the Patriots’ offensive scheme very easily. He unfortunately signed with the Tennessee Titans, who had offered him less money than New England.

Why sign with Tennessee instead of the SBLIII champions, especially at a cheaper cost?

It looks like we now have an answer.

During a conversation with Travis Haney of The Athletic, Humphries explained why he ultimately accepted a cheaper deal with the Titans.

“Obviously he’s the G.O.A.T. That’s that simple,” Humphries said of Brady. “But there’s so much that factors into that decision. It was a four-year deal. Who knows how many (years) he’s got left? There’s a lot that goes into that.

“Obviously the chance to play with him would have been awesome, but a lot of things factor into that decision. Ultimately, I thought this was coming here to a team that was on the rise and with young talent on the offense and a really good defense.”

You may not agree with Humphries’ logic, but his reasoning is warranted. Tom Brady is defying the odds with each snap he continues to take in the NFL. It’s not likely to last forever, or even the extended future.

Humphries must not be sold on the notion that New England will be just as good when Brady decides to retire.
