Adam Gase unhappy with Gregg Williams’ comments: ‘Shut up and play’

Adam Gase did not seem too pleased with defensive coordinator Gregg Williams when the two spoke prior to the Jets kicking off against the Dolphins on Sunday.

Earlier this week, Williams made comments indicating that New York’s defensive struggles have to do with the offense’s inability to move the ball. When asked about what has gone wrong for the Jets’ defense, which has allowed over 30 points per game so far this season, Williams told reporters to “figure it out,” referencing the poor starting field position the defense has had to battle for most of 2020.

Gase and Williams seemed to be discussing the issue before the game in what CBS called an “heated” conversation. Gase did most of the talking, while Williams listened and nodded along. Gase also told CBS on Saturday night that the Jets were not happy with Williams’ comments.

“That’s not what we need,” Gase said, per CBS. “No one is pointing fingers. We need to pull in the same direction. Everyone needs to shut up and play.”

The Jets currently trail the Dolphins 7-0 in the first quarter. New York has already allowed Miami to register 64 yards of offense.
