Adam Gase, Ryan Fitzpatrick can get revenge against former teams this weekend

Both Adam Gase and Ryan Fitzpatrick will have a little extra on the line when the Jets and Dolphins face off on Sunday in Miami.

Gase will be going against his former team for the first time since being fired by the Dolphins, while Fitzpatrick will be going up against the Jets for the second time since he was not re-signed by the team. Fitzpatrick beat the Jets the first time when he was with the Buccaneers, 15-10, in 2017.

Gase’s tenure with the Dolphins ended on a sour note. After making the playoffs in his first season, Gase failed to get back to the playoffs in his last two years in Miami. Gase also had difficulty getting along with some of his players. Since he had control over the player personnel, Gase traded away a few Dolphins who weren’t on the same page.

As for Fitzpatrick, he almost led the Jets to the playoffs in 2015 when he put up a 10-6 record. However, Fitzpatrick had a dismal performance in the final game of the season, which the Jets lost to the Bills and thus failed to make the playoffs. Fitzpatrick had the best year of his career that season when he threw for almost 4,000 yards and had 31 passing touchdowns.

Fitzpatrick earned himself a raise from the Jets with that career season, but then came back to reality in 2016 when he threw for 2,710 yards, 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. The Jets decided to move on and Fitzpatrick signed with the Buccaneers.

Now Gase and Fitzpatrick will see if they can get their new teams in the win column, as the Jets and Dolphins have combined to go 1-13 this season.
