Adam Gase rips Jets’ ‘atrocious’ offense after failing to score vs. Patriots

The Jets have had some bad offensive performances this season, but none worse than Sunday’s loss to the Patriots.

The Jets offense was shutout by Bill Belichick’s defense, with New York’s only points coming on defense and special teams. Adam Gase was brought in to solve the Jets’ offensive woes, but if anything, the Jets have taken a huge step backward without a healthy Sam Darnold under center.

“Offensively, we were atrocious,” Gase said after the game. “We have a lot to fix.”

Yeah, they do.

The Jets didn’t have high expectations offensively heading into the 30-14 loss with Luke Falk as their starting quarterback, but they weren’t even competent. The Jets were forced to punt 10 times and were 0-12 on third down. That’s inexcusable no matter who the quarterback is. The same could be said for the line’s lack of protection up front, which let Falk get sacked five times.  The O-line also didn’t block for Le’Veon Bell, who had 18 carries for 35 yards on the ground.

The Jets offense converted just six first downs, but a couple were because of Patriots penalties.

This Jets offense is historically bad right now. Their defense and special teams have outscored their unit, 22-11, this year, so yeah, atrocious is an appropriate label from Gase, who needs to turn things around in a hurry.

Luckily for Gase and the Jets, they have a bye this week that will allow them to refocus. After that, Darnold could return for Week 5 against the Eagles.

If Gase’s offense isn’t better by then, the Jets are in for a very long season.
