Adam Gase: Jets will address kicker position after Kaare Vedvik’s poor showing vs. Bills

It’s Week 1 of the regular season and the Jets are still without a kicker who can consistently make field goals.

The Jets decided to go with Kaare Vedvik as their starting kicker against the Bills after picking him up a week ago. The move didn’t work out, as Vedvik missed his lone extra point and field goal attempts, which cost the Jets four points in a one-point loss. The missed field goal wasn’t all on Vedvik, as Lachlan Edwards botched the hold. However, Vedvik’s failure to connect kept the Jets off the board when they needed them the most.

After the game, head coach Adam Gase told reporters that the team will address the kicking situation on Monday and go from there. However, if Sunday’s game is an indication of things to come, Vedvik may not be New York’s kicker in Week 2 against the Browns.

General manager Joe Douglas will likely scour the free-agent market and look for a veteran kicker to replace Vedvik. The Jets knew that they could lose games because of an inept kicker and it caught up to them right away in the season opener.
