Adam Gase: Jay Cutler will start for Dolphins vs. Raiders

DAVIE, Fla. _ A day after the Miami Dolphins suffered their worst shutout loss in 20 years, coach Adam Gase said injured quarterback Jay Cutler would return to start the next game.

Cutler sustained what Gase called "multiple cracked ribs" when he was hit by New York Jets linebacker Jordan Jenkins on Sunday.

Nonetheless, Gase didn't hesitate in saying, "Yeah, he's playing," in the Dolphins' against Oakland on Nov. 5. "He could have played (Thursday night)."

Backup Matt Moore, who sparked the stirring 31-28 comeback victory against the Jets, couldn't get the offense untracked in Thursday's 40-0 drubbing at Baltimore.

Moore finished 22 of 44 for 176 yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions _ both of which were returned for touchdowns _ and a 47.2 passer rating.

In fairness, Moore didn't receive much support from his receivers, line or running backs. The offense performed much as it has with Cutler at the controls.

Following Thursday's game, Gase said of Cutler, "I know Monday he ran with the team and he threw. He felt pretty good. I wasn't going to put him out there tonight. I just didn't think it was the smart thing to do. I know he's tough but I didn't want to put him in a bad situation where he could get hurt worse."
