Not much has gone right for the Jets this season, but it looks like Robby Anderson has finally turned the corner.
Anderson has been arguably the lifeblood of New York’s passing attack in recent weeks. Since the calendar turned to December, Anderson has hauled in 18 passes for 284 yards and a touchdown. He’s going to come up short of the 1,000-yard mark and isn’t going to finish the season with eye-popping numbers, but there’s no question that Anderson is getting the job done in a passing attack that has struggled for a multitude of reasons in 2019.
The Jets have a big offseason coming up and Anderson is at the center of it. The Temple product is set to hit free agency and will likely command a deal around $10 million per year. He will have no shortage of suitors given his big-play ability and speed that can take the top off a defense. In what is a relatively thin wide receiver market, there’s even a chance a bidding war for Anderson’s services materializes.
Adam Gase has been singing praises for Anderson since signing on as New York’s head coach. He has been so impressed with his No. 1 wideout that on Friday, he hinted that he would prefer general manager Joe Douglas brings Anderson back in 2020.
“I think the fact that we’ve played a lot of guys is really great, especially for our personnel department,” Gase said. “They have a really good idea of who are guys that are going to have a possibility of having a future, if there are certain guys that have eliminated themselves, what guys to re-sign. I think there is a lot of guys that have probably helped themselves.
“Offensively, one guy that I can say, Robby Anderson I’ve seen really make some huge strides this last month and I’ve seen him do some different things that he wasn’t necessarily doing earlier in the season consistently. He’s really made some huge strides for us and I think that he’s a guy that’s really popped off on tape.”
