With the Jets reeling at 0-5, Adam Gase is thinking about — but not committing to — some drastic changes.
The Jets head coach, dubbed a “brilliant offensive mind” by Christopher Johnson earlier this season, was asked Monday about the possibility of relinquishing his offensive play-calling duties. Surprisingly, Gase admitted that the thought has crossed his mind in the past and with the Jets offense ranking near the bottom in most statistical categories.

In four-plus years as a head coach between the Jets and Dolphins, Gase has always run his teams’ offense. Would he really be willing to give up that responsibility when it was his reputation as an offensive guru that brought him to New York? And, if so, who would take over calling plays?
Offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains is next on the totem pole, but he’s been Gase’s right-hand man for years. It’s hard to imagine an offense run by Loggains looking any different. Running backs coach Jim Bob Cooter, meanwhile, has play-calling experience from his days as the Lions’ offensive coordinator, though those teams produced mixed results from 2016-2018.
Tight ends coach John Dunn was also UConn’s offensive coordinator before joining the Jets staff.
