Adam Forshaw's emotional reaction to first Leeds United Premier League start sums him up perfectly

Adam Forshaw was in a thankful mood following his first start in a league game in over two years. However - despite his gratefulness - he still spoke of disappointment that the Whites failed to secure the three points they felt they deserved against Leicester City.

Speaking of the game, which ended 1-1 as Harvey Barnes quickly cancelled out Raphinha's opener, Forshaw said to LUTV:

"The performance was really good so we'll be slightly disappointed we didn't get three points. I think if we continue to play like that: the intensity, second balls, we'll pick up points definitely yeah.

"They usually are [high-intensity games] especially at Elland Road the way we play, high intensity everybody knows. We're quite exciting at times I think and it was an open game. Yeah, I think maybe we could have ran away with the points."

Asked about how he felt to return to the starting line-up after so long away, the midfielder had a lot of people to thank.

"Yeah, I'm pleased. I'd just like to say a massive, massive thank you to Rob Price and his team, the strength and conditioning coaches, the manager, the way he's managed me throughout the summer, my family, my wife [for] putting up with me and keeping me busy on days when it was tough. I'm thankful to everybody."

Forshaw hadn't played a league game for the Whites since September 2019 as he picked up a hip injury which was initially thought to be a knock. However, the injury eventually required surgery and months of rehabilitation before he was considered to be fit to play.

Last season he returned to the U23s side before the end of the campaign but picked up a hamstring injury as he struggled to regain match fitness. In recent months he has made two starts in the league cup, as well as two substitute appearances in the Premier League before being able to return to the starting line-up against Leicester.
