Adam Forshaw opens up on the moment the penny dropped for him on Leeds United's global status

Adam Forshaw says the rumbling controversy over the redesign of Leeds United's badge was how he discovered first-hand they were a big club upon his Elland Road arrival.

The midfielder joined from Middlesbrough in January 2018 and has subsequently gone on to establish himself as one of the key members of Marcelo Bielsa's Whites side.

Forshaw made the move to West Yorkshire just as the club were rolling out plans for a new club emblem, which infamously blew up following widespread criticism from supporters across the game.

Reflecting on it while speaking on the Talking Shutt podcast, the 28-year-old says the event was an eye-opener in regards to just how significant a place Leeds occupied on the national football landscape.

"To be honest, the big one was when I first signed and they were going through [the process of] changing the badge," he said, smiling.

"Honestly, at the time, I was seeing it got so many dislikes [on social media] or whatever it was, and it was going to go to the House of Commons or something. At that time, I thought 'Wow, there's so much uproar with this'.

“You wouldn't have had that many people bothered about it at the other clubs I played for, the likes of Wigan [Athletic] and Boro. No disrespect, but it is just the size of the fanbase.

"That was at the time and as I went on getting the chance to play at Elland Road and going from there, you just gradually realise the size of the club.”
