Adam Forshaw opens up on Marcelo Bielsa's 'classroom' analysis at Leeds United

Adam Forshaw has provided an insight into one of the more distinctive elements of Marcelo Bielsa’s training methodology at Leeds United.

The midfielder, who has been sidelined for the majority of the season, has remained hard at work with the squad and given information on the extra work that goes in away from the training pitch.

Speaking in a new interview with BBC Sport , the 28-year-old described what Leeds are doing the same and differently as last season and gave in-depth detail on the analysis done by the players and coaching staff.

“To be honest, the sessions on field have been very similar,” said Forshaw.

“There’s been a little bit more emphasis on being slightly more - until the last few games - we’ve been defensively a lot better. A lot of classroom sessions.

“We’ll do anything from individual sessions with the manager on your clips from the game, or collective, we can do meetings on things away from football to do with articles that we’ve seen.

“There’s just a lot of thought and a lot of togetherness that goes into that.”

Bielsa is famously meticulous when it comes to reading about football and analysing it.

He’s said to have collected Argentinian sports magazine El Grafico since he was a football-obsessed youngster, even going so far as to index it in precise detail.

That’s clearly rubbing off on the Leeds players at Thorp Arch this season.

“If for whatever reason the manager may have seen something that he may have liked,” Forshaw elaborated when asked by Chris Sutton about what he called the classroom sessions.

“An analysis on a certain player or something, we could have a meeting on it and we could pick things from certain articles that came out that week.

“If there’s any 1% that could try and help us, it’s just a different side to look at it sometimes when you can’t always be out on the field, you can do mental sessions.”
