Adam Engel drives in the go-ahead run in the 8th as the White Sox beat the Twins 3-1 to open a 2-game division lead

CHICAGO _ Adam Engel started to show bunt during his eighth-inning at-bat in a tie game Monday.

The Chicago White Sox pinch hitter then brought back his bat and connected for a single up the middle that drove in Yoan Moncada from second to give the Sox the lead. Tim Anderson added an RBI double two batters later as the Sox went on to beat the Minnesota Twins 3-1 at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The Sox (31-16) extended their lead in the American League Central to two games over the Twins (30-19) as they took Round 1 of the highly anticipated four-game series.

Moncada and Luis Robert began the eighth with consecutive walks against Taylor Rogers. Engel pinch-hit for Nomar Mazara and fouled off a bunt attempt on the first pitch, then came through with the hit to give the Sox a 2-1 lead.

Anderson knocked in Robert with a one-out double to make it 3-1.

Moncada walked three times and scored twice as the Sox won for the ninth time in 10 games.
