Adam Berghorst to stay with Michigan State commitment over signing with Texas Rangers

Football recruiting is in a dead period, but Michigan State got some good news on that front today.

Football–and baseball–signee Adam Berghorst announced on Twitter he will not be signing with the Texas Rangers and instead attend Michigan State.

Berghorst, a defensive end out of Zeeland East, was drafted by the Rangers in the 12th round of the MLB Draft in June. He was one of two MSU recruits drafted, with the other, Jase Bowen, signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates after being taken in the 11th round. Bowen’s signing bonus was reportedly in excess of $400,000.

It’s a nice win for Mark Dantonio and company as losing two football signees  in one class to Major League Baseball would have hurt. Berghorst is a three-star recruit and rated as the 655th best prospect in the country according to 247 Sports’ composite ranking.

Berghorst has enrolled at MSU, according to 247 Sports’ recruiting timeline.
