Browsing Craigslist advertisements will always bring about some interesting results, but a listing posted last week was too good to be true.
The "gently used" booster that sent a Falcon 9 rocket into space last Wednesday was found listed for sale on Craigslist for a paltry $9,900,000. The booster survived a miles-long fall into the Atlantic Ocean after delivering a communications satellite into orbit.
The "seller" did mention some slight imperfections with the rocket, but the "slight burnt paint" is nothing that a microfiber cloth and some elbow grease can't buff out.
The listing, obviously, was a hoax. After Port Canaveral reached out to the person who posted the ad, the seller responded with an email saying the post was all in good fun.
"The post was OBVIOUSLY made as a gesture of enthusiasm and in good humor," the poster responded Tuesday before offering to take the listing down.
SpaceX founder Elon Musk said on Twitter the company would try to tow the booster back to shore.
