ACU Is Hosting A Bunch of Open Days For Anyone Keen On A Career In Nursing

There’s no denying that Open Days can be pretty overwhelming. Not only are you on the cusp of starting the next big chapter of your life, but you have some big decisions to make about your future. No pressure, right?

While no one expects you to have everything figured out in life just yet, now is the perfect time to start looking into what to do next.

And for those interested in being on the front lines of healthcare, you’ll wanna know about this.

Australian Catholic University (ACU) is hosting its Open Days soon, and it offers exceptional courses for those interested in a career in nursing. And no, you don’t need to be Catholic to attend ACU. This will be your chance to check out the campus and learn what life at uni could be like, while also bagging some nifty merch at the same time.

Here’s everything you need to know.

This could be you!!!

When is it happening?

ACU has campuses located throughout Australia and will be hosting its Open Days in July, August and September. Each campus will host its own Open Day with a unique timetable and range of events and activities, so be sure to plan ahead so you don’t miss anything on the day.

Here are all the dates for ACU’s 2025 Open Days below:

What should I know before going?

Ah, the infamous pre-Open Day question.

My pro tip is to prep enough so you don’t feel too overwhelmed, but not so much that you undercut the spontaneity of the day.

Make sure to bring a notepad and some water. You’ll get a bag with some key info, course guide and merch when you arrive, and be collecting a bunch of different brochures throughout the day. Open Days are also great for getting some free food and snacks.

I’d also recommend skimming the campus map before heading in, so you know where to go on the day. Although, don’t worry about getting lost on campus – ACU has heaps of very friendly staff and students around, plus lots of signage and a map in the program you’ll get on arrival, so you can find where you need to be.

You’ll also want to build yourself an Open Day planner. There are heaps of different events, activities and course information sessions on the day, and some only run at specific times. If you’re on the fence between two career paths, course info sessions can be really great to help you decide between the two.

Open Days are also your opportunity to ask lecturers and students about courses and uni life. Think of a few questions to ask that’ll help you decide if this is the right course and university for you. Questions around student outcomes, study-life balance, support services and why you should choose that specific campus are always great to ask on the day.

But, most importantly, have fun! Open Days are just as much about the good vibes as they are about learning what a uni has to offer. You want to pick a university that aligns with your values and has a culture in which you feel you’d best fit in. This is the perfect way to actually meet the staff and students and see how it feels. So head on in and see if it passes the vibe check.

What is ACU known for?

Now, for the big question: why choose ACU?

If you’re someone who has a passion for nursing and wants to make a difference, ACU is a phenomenal place to get your start. Not only will the uni teach you all the theory, but it has plenty of industry connections and practical experience to help you hit the ground running. It’s also committed to helping you thrive during your studies – academically, personally and professionally – and to getting the skills to make a positive difference.

Now, if you are looking to get into nursing, ACU should be a serious consideration. The uni is one of the top 50 in the world for nursing. And it makes sense why.

ACU nurses are something special. Not only does the wider industry recognise them for their impressive clinical skills, but they are also some of the most compassionate in the field. So, you can feel confident knowing you’ll be showing up to hospitals with those in-demand skills.

Throughout the Bachelor of Nursing, for example, students will graduate with at least 800 hours of practical experience. That’s more hours than the entire runtime of House M.D!

I mean, who doesn’t want to channel their inner Dr. House?

ACU also has top-tier facilities staffed by nursing experts who will run you through simulated wards and practical experiences to hone your skills.

And thanks to the uni’s many clinical nursing partners, opportunities are immense. Whether that’s within Australia or even overseas, you’ll have several opportunities to work in some of the best hospitals around the world to learn. Oh, and on travel, did you know ACU has its very own campus in Rome, Italy? And you can study there during your degree.

Talk about getting your money’s worth, hey?

What else does ACU teach?

While ACU is very well-known for its nursing degrees, the university offers a huge range of other excellent courses. Whether you love arts, education, IT, business, law, theology, philosophy or health, ACU can help you.

For example, ACU is ranked first in the world for its research quality in psychology and ranks top 50 globally for education. That’s not to mention a huge range of other accolades, like five stars for learner engagement, skills development and graduate salary. So, if you’re on the fence about how you want to help people, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from at ACU.

Of course, in these strange times, you’ll want to know that your degree is taking you places. After all that time and money spent, you’d hope so at least.

Thankfully, the healthcare industry has remained largely unaffected by the AI boom. In fact, several experts predict that the healthcare industry will grow in the next five years. But if you want some extra insurance, at ACU, 94 per cent of nursing undergraduates find employment shortly after grabbing that well-deserved degree.

That’s right, no months scouring LinkedIn applying for ghost jobs – you only need to focus on how best to help people. I’m almost jealous, I won’t lie.

If you’d like to know more about ACU’s Open Days and even sign up to save a spot and win some great prizes, be sure to visit ACU’s website for more details.
