Actress Stephanie Davis announces Hollyoaks departure with 'heavy heart'

Actress Stephanie Davis has announced she's decided to quit Hollyoaks in a series of Instagram posts.

Sharing an image of typed calligraphy reading "goals: be happy", the 27-year-old wrote: "Sometimes we make decisions based not on what we want but what we know is right!

"I have loved bringing Sinead into your homes for the past ten years but it’s with a heavy heart I have decided to leave Hollyoaks and now looking forward to working on new and exciting projects."

Comments on the post are currently disabled but it racked up more than 2,000 likes in the first half hour it was shared.

The actress, from Merseyside, shot to fame after taking part in the BBC's reality talent-search series Over the Rainbow in 2010 before going on to be cast in Hollyoaks as Sinead O'Connor.

On her Instagram stories, she shared a series of cryptic quotes following her announcement, often referencing finding "inner peace".

One post read: "Do nothing that sacrifices your inner peace and happiness.

"If it costs you your peace it's too expensive".

Stephanie's announcement follows actress Rachel Adedeji, 28, who recently quit the show and accused showrunners of enabling behind-the-scenes racism on social media.

Rachel took to Twitter after the popular soap showed solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

The actress made a series of allegations regarding her treatment while working on the soap and said she was "disappointed" with Hollyoaks' approach to the movement.
