Actress Sally Ann Howes dies aged 91

Actress Sally Ann Howes has died.

Sally, who enjoyed a stellar career spanning more than six decades across stage, screen, and television, passed away on Sunday at the age of 91, the Mirror report.

The actress, who played Truly Scrumptious in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang alongside Dick Van Dyke, had a stellar career that began when she was aged just 12.

She made her debut in the film Thursday's Child, and she became a household name when she replaced Julie Andrews in My Fair Lady on Broadway.

She was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical in 1963 for her performance in Brigadoon.

In 1968, Sally starred in children's classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as Truly Scrumptious alongside Dick Van Dyke.

And while the iconic flick became one of her most famous roles, after production ended, she decided to turn back to theatre roles due to the fact she missed the audience interaction.

"I would have liked a film career, but I didn't pursue it – I just loved connecting with an audience," Sally previously told the Palm Beach Post.

"The theatre is a drug. The problem is that to be remembered, you have to do films."

Sally also enjoyed other theatre roles which included What Makes Sammy Run?, The King and I, and Cinderella.
