Australian actress Clare McCann is trying to fundraise nearly $300,000 to “cryogenically preserve” her son’s body following his death.
The actress - who has starred in Channel [V] shows Blog Party and Clublife - started the GoFundMe following the death of her son last week.
Atreyu, who was 13, died by suicide on May 23 after what she called “months of relentless bullying”.
Clare has said she wants to raise the money - which is around £140,000 - to give Atreyu “a second chance to live the life he wanted”.
“It’s with shattered hearts that we share the passing of my beautiful son, Atreyu McCann. He was the brightest light in my world — kind, creative, and endlessly loved” she wrote.
“Right now, we are grieving a loss that words can’t hold. Please give us time and space as we process this unimaginable pain.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported and loved Atreyu. We’ll share more when we’re ready. For now, please hold him in your hearts.”
The actress also told news.com.au she had discussed “the afterlife, heaven and cryogenics” with her son before, which is something he said he’d “like to do”.
“Over the years we talked about that that’s what we would want to do together, never separate,” she also said.
“He deserves a second chance to live the life he wanted.”
She added that there is a short time window for her to raise the money,
“We only have one chance left to cryogenically preserve his body within the next 7 days,” she said.
“If we miss this window, we lose the chance for any future revival that science may offer.
“This is about hope and justice. Refusing to let my son’s story end in silence.”
Cryonics is when human remains are frozen, in the hope resurrection may happen in the future.
So far, the fundraiser has had 62 donations and raised over $4537.
Atreyu starred with his mum in 2019 independent film Benefited, which Clare also wrote and directed.
