A popular Thai-German actress has been convicted and sentenced for drunk driving after being stopped In the early hours of Sunday at a police traffic checkpoint in Bangkok.
Her partner, a well-known businessman, attempted to interfere and was charged with insulting and obstructing police.
About 3.20am on Sunday, police at a traffic checkpoint on Pradit Manutham Road in Bangkok stopped a green Porsche driven by 33-year-old actress and model Marie Broenner, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
Ms Marie, who is Thai-German, was with her partner, businessman Asmogorn “Boss” Singsigakul, in the front passenger seat, and a young girl in the back identified as his daughter.
When officers requested a breathalyser test, Mr Asmogorn told Ms Marie to refuse and argued with them, insisting that she not be taken from the vehicle. They remained inside the car, with the windows closed, for nearly an hour before finally stepping out, police said.
Mr Asmogorn said he knew senior police officials.
Officers took all three to Wang Thonglang police station.
At the station, Ms Marie again refused to take a breathalyser test. Based on her physical condition and behaviour, police charged her with drink-driving.
Mr Asmogorn was booked for insulting and obstructing police officers.
In court on Monday, Ms Marie was sentenced to two months in prison, suspended for two years, and fined 4,000 baht, and her driver's licence suspended for six months.
She was also fined 1,000 baht for disobeying police orders.
Mr Asmogorn pleaded guilty to insulting and obstructing police officers in the performance of their duty. He was sentenced to one month in prison and fined 10,000 baht, with the jail term suspended for one year.
