Actress Aisling Bea reveals it took years of hard work to become household name

Actress Aisling Bea has revealed it took years of hard work to become a household name.

The Irish star is appearing in a string of hit TV shows this year including the hit Netflix series, Living With Yourself, opposite Paul Rudd.

But the 35 year old told ITV’s Jonathan Ross Show that her recent TV project, This Way Up, with Sharon Horgan, is very close to her heart.

She said: “That’s a show I wrote and I’m in with Sharon Horgan and that’s like my baby.

“It just shows you, this year in particular has been so crazy for work, everything came together but it’s been years of knock backs and failures in many ways.

“So many of us have Instagram accounts and Twitter accounts but we never put up the days where we’re feeling really sad and low and you’re eating spaghetti hoops out of a tin.”

She also told the Jonathan Ross Show that crystals are her lucky charms.

She said: “I have crystals in my bra right now, just in case.

“It’s a daily thing I suppose, it’s like what if they work?

“I’d always put them in my bra for a gig to make sure the gig would go well, rather than relying on work and craft.”

Bea has also landed a starring role as an ITV boss in a new series on one of Britain’s biggest TV scandals.

The comedian will play the station’s Entertainment Commissioner Claudia Rosencrantz in the drama telling the story of how English couple Charles and Diana Ingram attempted an ‘audacious heist’ on the quiz show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

The Kildare actress is part of a star-studded cast signed up to Quiz, which will be helmed by Philomena director, Stephen Frears.

Matthew Macfadyen will star as Major Charles Ingram while Michael Sheen plays TV presenter, Chris Tarrant and Sian Clifford will play Diana Ingram in the three-part drama.

It centres around the story of Major Ingram, his wife Diana and an accomplice, Tecwen Whittock, who was sitting in the audience, were accused of cheating their way to a million pounds on what was, the most popular game show on earth in 2001.

• The Jonathan Ross Show airs tomorrow [sat] at 10:20pm on ITV.
