Actor William Daniels jokes about foiling attempted break-in: 'I beat him up'

William Daniels' Halloween scares came a few days early this year, but the veteran actor was more than ready.

The "Boy Meets World" star, 91, spooked away a would-be intruder at his California home Saturday, and joked that he gave the wannabe burglar a beating.

"I struggled with an intruder, took him to the ground. I beat him up and he ran away with bruises all over him," Daniels told ABC News Wednesday. "Would you like to print that? You better not, it's a total lie."

Daniels and his wife, actress Bonnie Bartlett, were in their San Fernando Valley home when someone tried to kick in the back door just before 9:30 p.m., according to TMZ.

Daniels said they were asleep when suddenly he heard a loud banging noise.

"I lit the light, and Bonnie screamed and this person fled," he recalled.

"Well, I think you scared him away," Bonnie responded.

Daniels' rep confirmed the attempted break-in in a statement to the Daily News Tuesday, saying the actor was able to frighten the person away and the police were quick to respond.

"They are both well. Mr. Daniels thanks all his fans for their concern," the statement read.

Daniels' "Boy Meets World" co-stars Danielle Fishel, who played Topanga Lawrence, and Will Friedle, who played Eric Matthews, joked about their former on-screen teacher's heroics on Twitter.

"Weird detail no one's reporting, as the burglar ran away he yelled, 'Dream! Try! Do good!" Fishel wrote.

Friedle, meanwhile, wrote, "Don't ever mess with Mr. Feeny! #LoveYouBillAndBonnie."

Daniels and Bartlett have been married for nearly 70 years, and appeared together on the NBC drama "St. Elsewhere."
