Actor Toby Jones hopes his new comedy will be Bognor Regis' answer to Poldark

Actor Toby Jones hopes his new comedy Don’t Forget the Driver might do for Bognor Regis what Poldark did for Cornwall.

The actor said that filming during last summer’s beautiful weather meant that Bognor was presented at its very best in the BBC2 series.

And he revealed that many of the crew started thinking about moving there themselves.

“The good weather meant that most of the crew were checking out estate agents while we were there, going, ‘This is great! No one knows about Bognor’,” he said.

“Could it give a boost to tourism? I really hope so. We happened to have a heatwave while we were there so who knows? Maybe it will transform Bognor Regis.”

In the plot Jones, 52, plays coach driver Peter Green, who stumbles across a body washed up on the beach and then helps a stowaway – sending his life into turmoil.

The Cornish tourist board has said the areas that feature most prominently in Poldark – Porthcurno and Kynance Cove – have seen an “unprecedented surge” in holidaymakers since the series began.

Brace yourself, Bognor…
