Actor Stephen Graham dedicates OBE to his mum as he announces her death after receiving New Years Honour

Actor Stephen Graham has shared some sad news while announcing he has been awarded an OBE. Posting to his social media, Stephen told his fans his "incredible, inspirational, warrior" mum had passed away.

The 49-year-old posted a very sweet tribute to his mum, saying his OBE for services to drama, was for both of them. He said: "A few days ago… this incredible, inspirational, warrior woman with the purest heart… my mum passed away. Her words as a child “no one is above you and no one is below you… all are equal“ have remained with me throughout my life. I feel so honoured and proud to share this with her…An OBE for both of us mum" followed by a praying emoji and pink flower emoji.

Many celebrities sent comments of support to Stephen with Harry Potter star Tom Felton commenting: "Sending love to you and family xx" and fellow Line of Duty star Vicky McClure adding: "Oh Ste I'm so so sorry You made her incredibly proud. Xxx".

The Liverpool actor has starred in many successful TV series and films including the BBC drama Line of Duty, This Is England and The Irishman. In 2022, Stephen starred in the hard-hitting ITV drama The Walk In, the musical film Matilda, comedic police series Code 404 and had a role in the hit BBC show Peaky Blinders.

Stephen has spoken openly about his mental health and is married to his fellow This Is England and Boiling Point co-star Hannah Walters. He credits Hannah for helping him following a suicide attempt during a period of despair in his early 20s.

Hannah also helps Stephen read his scripts as he is heavily dyslexic. Stephen told a Bafta session: “I’m dyslexic, so I struggle. My missus actually reads the script and says whether or not I’m doing it. She’s made some good choices.”
