The Mumbai police on Thursday booked actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra, her businessman husband Raj Kundra and three others – all directors of an online shopping TV show Best Deal – for allegedly cheating a textile firm owner of Rs24 lakh.
Hindustan Times tried to get a comment from the actor and her husband through the former’s spokesperson, but they had not responded till the time of going to press.
According to the complaint, Goregaon resident Ravi Mohanlal Bhalotia,60, met the actor, her husband and the others – Durshit Indravan Shah, Uday Kothari and Vedant Bali – for an online shopping deal two years ago.
“They bought bedsheets worth Rs1.5 crore from me in 2015. I handed over the items to them, for which they paid Rs1.44 crore in January 2016,” said Bhalotia. “When I approached them, they made several false promises and convinced me to give them another consignment of bedsheets worth Rs18 lakh in July 2016. But they never paid me for it.”
Bhalotia approached Thane police commissioner Param Bir Singh 10 days ago and filed a complaint. After conducting a primary investigation, the police booked the five people on charges of cheating.
M Sawant, senior inspector, Kongaon police station, said, “We have not arrested anyone yet. We will send them a notice about it.”
