Actor Mario Maurer has been fined 1,000 baht for careless driving, in the wake of Monday's road rage that plunged him into a heated dispute with a taxi driver.
The 29-year-old actor-cum-model reported to Phaya Thai police and admitted to the charge on Wednesday, after he earlier decided not to lay a complaint against cabbie Udon Suthipon, 37, who angrily fired a slingshot at Mario's black Porsche, breaking a driver-side window.
Police, however, decided to press charges.
They both were charged with careless driving and were fined because "we don't want them to set an [inappropriate] example," which could lead to damages and losses, Phaya Thai police chief Pol Col Nitiwat Sansing told INN News on Wednesday.
Mr Udon was charged earlier and fined a similar amount. Police reportedly said then he could also be charged with causing damage to property and attempted assault.
On Jan 8, the actor and Mr Udom repeatedly overtook each other along Phetchaburi Road in Bangkok on Monday evening before the cabbie's use of a slingshot ended their race.
The taxi's driver-side window was also reportedly damaged.
Mr Udon told police the actor's Porsche overtook him without warning as he was preparing to turn right at Urupong Intersection from Rama VI Road. This led to the exchange of words and mutual road rage.
