Actor Larry Lamb opens up about Gavin and Stacey movie

Actor Larry Lamb today opened up about rumours of a Gavin and Stacey film - admitting he would "love" them to be true.

The popular sitcom hit our screens back in 2007 and amassed a legion of loyal fans.

The series ended in 2010 before returning for a much-anticipated Christmas special in December 2019.

With 18.49 million viewers, the broadcast in the United Kingdom was the most viewed non-sporting event in a decade and the most watched comedy in 17 years.

But the show ended on a cliffhanger, with fans desperate for a new series or film to be made to provide answers.

Star Larry Lamb, who played much-loved patriarch Mick Shipman on the successful series, appeared via video link on today's Loose Women.

When asked if there was a chance of a film of the hit comedy being written, Larry said: "I remember talking to James [Corden] about the whole thing of having had 10 years of being asked if it was coming back, then you do the Christmas special and you’re back answering the same question.

"It’s a drug the nation is hooked on.

"I don’t know if there is [a movie]. I’d love it if there is."

When Denise Welch asked Larry if he’s surprised about James' stateside success, he said: "Not really. James is a phenomenon.

"He’s kind of been doing it for years, it’s timing. It’s all about timing. The talent’s always been there."

*Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV
