Actor John Lithgow voices concern for America under the Trump administration, hails JB Pritzker as a ‘full-throated resonant voice’

Actor John Lithgow, known for his roles in 3rd Rock from the Sun (1996-2001) and The Crown (2016-2019), has been quite vocal in his criticism of Donald Trump. He has repeatedly called out the cheeto satan’s behaviour and used terms such as “ghastly threat to America” and a “pure disaster” to describe him.

John Lithgow is aiming at Donald Trump again, but this time, he is also making an interesting observation. In recently resurfaced videos on X (formerly Twitter), from an interview Lithgow featured in May 2025, he can be seen passing on the idea of taking on the role of Donald Trump in a production upon being questioned by the interviewer.

Substantiating his decision, Lithgow stressed that Trump’s story should ideally come to an end before he could play him in a project. He, however, stated that he wouldn’t mind playing a “send-up” of Trump as he was “a wonderful object of satire”, while noting that he had already written satirical poetry books about him and his “crazy world” from his “first term.” Having said that, he also highlighted that things were increasingly getting “grave”, which is making it difficult for him to make fun of the “subject” (referring to Trump) without being engulfed by the feeling that he is somehow “normalising” it.

John Lithgow continued to reflect on the matter, adding that he believed it was time to hear the voices of people who are actively working towards making changes around them, especially when it comes to expressing their opposition to the Trump administration. He name-dropped JB Pritzker, Governor of Illinois and one of Trump’s harshest critics, and called him a “full-throated resonant voice” who is equally angry at the Republicans and Democrats. Further on, being asked how worried he was about America’s current condition, Lithgow expressed deep dissatisfaction and referred to the current circumstances as a “critical moment for democracy.”
