Actor calls for US military draft to be reinstated as Iran war rages

  • Comedy actor Rob Schneider has suggested that the U.S. should reinstate military conscription, requiring every 18-year-old American to serve two years.
  • Schneider argued that mandatory service would unite young people, provide physical training, and ensure a standing army for national defense and domestic emergencies.
  • “We must once again recommit ourselves to one nation under God, indivisible,” he wrote in a post on X. “Therefore, we must restore the military draft for our nation's young people. Each and every American, at 18 years of age, must serve two years of military service. They could also choose to serve part of that time overseas or in country in a volunteer capacity.”
  • The U.S. ended mandatory military service in 1973, transitioning to an all-volunteer force, though men aged 18-25 are still required to register for potential future drafts.
  • Schneider's political affiliations have shifted over time, moving from Democrat to Republican and endorsing Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential cycle after initially supporting Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He has recently faced criticism for anti-LGBT+ comments and a public disagreement with his daughter, singer Elle King, regarding his parenting.
