Dozens of Iranian political activists in exile launched on Thursday a campaign calling on voters to boycott the upcoming legislative elections in the country.
A statement called on everyone to join the campaign held under the slogan of “Esfand Without Voices.”
Esfand is the 12th and final month of the Iranian official Solar Hijri calendar. It’s when the parliamentary elections are held in Iran.
The pro-reformist “Zeytoun” website that has published the activists’ statement said the campaign constitutes the “right opportunity for protests to continue and be organized so that to become a comprehensive and purposeful movement.”
Tehran has announced that the next legislative elections are scheduled for February 21, four years after the previous polls were held.
“The electoral show planned to be held (this month) comes at a time when the results of 70 percent of districts have already been decided by Wilayat al-Faqih apparatuses and the military and security forces, in the absence of any competition among government branches,” the statement said.
Signed by 194 activists, the statement stressed that there is no link between the elections, Iranian sovereignty and the representation of the Iranian nation.
“Participation in the elections means indirectly disregarding the bloodshed of the November protests and a show of support to the religious despotism, which aims to compensate its lost legitimacy,” the activists added.
The campaign to boycott the elections has launched seven slogans and five proposals on Iranians to join its ranks.
