Activist Srisuwan Janya will today petition the Election Commission (EC) to look into allegations made by the Future Forward Party that there were attempts to draw its politicians to jump ship with offers up to 120 million baht to the pro-regime camp.
He said the EC will have to act because the allegations made by the FFP are serious and could be in violation of the Criminal Code and of the organic law governing political parties.
He said the alleged practice could be seen as an attempt to acquire power to rule the country in a way not specified by the constitution, a charge that could result in the dissolution of a political party by the Constitutional Court.
He called on the FFP to take action against people or political parties accused of making the approach otherwise the allegations would be seen as being politically motivated to influence the June 5 prime ministerial vote.
According to Mr Srisuwan, the FFP also risks being investigated for negligence if it does not cooperate with the EC in an investigation.
Mr Srisuwan's move drew jeers from Taopiphop Limjittrakorn, an FFP MP for Bangkok who claimed he was made a series of offers that peaked at a total of 120 million baht.
Mr Taopiphop said he did not think the issue had anything to do with Mr Srisuwan or see how the activist was affected by it.
The FFP MP insisted there is evidence to back the allegations, but said it is up to the party to decide if it wants to share it with the public.
He is ready to release the evidence, an audio clip for example, if the FFP says so.
