
Samlee Jaidee, a pharmacist with a prominent role in several fights to change the country’s public health landscape, died on Sunday aged 77.
Her passing was revealed in a message of condolence posted on Facebook by Saree Aongsomwang, secretary-general of the Foundation for Consumers, who said Asst Prof Samlee succumbed to lung infections.
A funeral is held at Wat Khreau Wanin the Bangkok Noi area of Bangkok, said Ms Saree. The chanting rite starts at 6.30pm until Wednesday.
Samlee fought to improve access to generic versions of life-saving drugs and led a successful nationwide campaign against self-prescribed drug use among low-income earners. She also pushed to have herbal medicines included in the national drug list.
