A CLIMATE activist who staged a three-and-half hour protest atop a coal train bound for the Newcastle port has had her matter mentioned in court for the first time.
Mia Bench, 20, of Hamilton, was charged with four offences after she broadcast herself on social media disrupting coal services in the rail corridor at Sandgate on October 18.
Police say they were called to the area about 7.30am after reports several protestors were blocking the rail line.
When police arrived the group "dispersed" but they allegedly found Ms Bench on top of a loaded coal train.
With assistance from negotiators, police rescue and police transport command officers, Ms Bench came down from the train about 10.40am, police said.
She was arrested and later charged with four offences.
Activist group Extinction Rebellion said in October the protest had been timed to coincide with federal environment minister Sussan Ley appealing a court verdict that found she has a duty of care to protect children from future personal injury caused by climate change.
Ms Bench did not enter any pleas on Thursday and the matter was adjourned until December.
