"Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2" is back on modern gaming consoles, but the good news from Activision does not stop there.
The company has confirmed that crossplay is now available for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Activision Confirms 'Call of Duty Black Ops 1 and 2' Crossplay
Activision has confirmed that the newly released PlayStation ports of "Call of Duty: Black Ops" and "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" support crossplay between PS4 and PS5, clearing up confusion that followed the games' surprise launch last week.
The clarification came directly from the official Call of Duty Updates account on X after fans raised concerns about missing cross-generation matchmaking.
"Call of Duty: Black Ops" and "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" launched digitally on PS4 and PS5 on July 9, bringing the original 2010 and 2012 titles to current PlayStation hardware for the first time.
The release came after months of speculation once ESRB listings for the ports surfaced online, and fans welcomed the return of two of the franchise's most beloved entries.
The launch was not without issues, though, as many players quickly noticed that cross-generation matchmaking appeared to be missing, with PS4 and PS5 owners initially unable to play together. Season Pass holders also seemed to be blocked from matching with players who did not own the pass, adding to the early confusion.

PS4 and PS5 players are able to matchmake with one another. There is no cross-platform play with PS3 or other hardware platforms.
Also, Season Pass owners are able to matchmake with non-Season Pass owners in both titles.
PS4, PS5 Crossplay On 'Black Ops 1 and 2'
Activision addressed the issue directly on X, as many players have asked if they can play together on the consoles, raising their questions on social media platforms. Originally, fans were confused if crossplay is part of the "Black Ops 1 and 2" ports as it was not mentioned by the company.
The post confirmed that PS4 and PS5 players are able to matchmake with one another in both games, resolving what many had assumed was a launch oversight from porting studio Iron Galaxy.
The statement also clarified that Season Pass owners can now matchmake with players who do not own the pass, another point of confusion players had raised since launch. The fix addressed two of the biggest complaints fans voiced about the ports during their first days available on PlayStation.
Crossplay Is Exclusive On PS4 and PS5
While PS4 and PS5 players can now play together, Activision made clear that this crossplay support does not extend beyond those two platforms.
The company confirmed there is no cross-platform play with PS3, meaning owners of the original PS3 versions cannot join lobbies with PS4 or PS5 players.
Crossplay is also not available with other hardware platforms, since "Call of Duty: Black Ops" and "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" have not been released on Xbox or PC as part of this rollout.
For now, matchmaking between "Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2" players remains limited strictly to those on PS4 and PS5.
