Active shooter firing at Philadelphia police

PHILADELPHIA _ A shooter has barricaded himself inside a building and fired multiple shots at Philadelphia police officers in the city's Frankford section, officials say.

The gunman is reported to be on the second floor of a row house in the 4600 block of Hawthorne Street.

No injuries have been reported.

The standoff began about 1:05 p.m. local time Thursday. Around 2 p.m., police fired a round of beanbags at the building in attempts to break its windows. A SWAT truck is at the scene.

Schools in the area are on a "lock-in" due to the shooting, officials said. Frankford Library is also closed due to the incident.

The circumstances behind the standoff were not immediately known, but U.S. Marshals are reported to be at the scene. Police have asked TV news helicopters to stay away from area.
